Laura Rathe Fine Art Announces New Exhibition
As one of Texas’ top gallerists, Laura Rathe represents an array of midcareer and established artists across various media. Rathe’s latest installment can be found at her Upper Kirby gallery, one of three locations under the Laura Rathe Fine Art umbrella. Comprising new works by Carly Allen-Martin and Lucrecia Waggoner, Untethered is a joint exhibition centered around both artists’ views on the uncertainty of change.
Known for her vibrant, multihued oil-and-pastel paintings, Dallas-based contemporary artist Carly Allen-Martin has embraced the lack of control in our current environment. Her work for Untethered was inspired by feelings of liberation and a desire to abandon the pursuit of perfection. Allen-Martin’s use of texture is representative of her ability to create art without censorship or constraint, which can be seen throughout each piece in the exhibition.
A Mexico City native, Texas resident Lucrecia Waggoner specializes in porcelain wall art that incorporates a range of materials, including precious metals. Through her newest body of work, Waggoner explores the disparity between containment and connection. As the concept of harmony and balance is a consistent theme in all her work, patrons will also notice this theme in Waggoner’s Untethered installations.
To kick off the dual exhibition, Laura Rathe Fine Art will host an opening reception on Oct. 24 from 6 to 9PM. Houstonians can peruse Allen-Martin’s and Waggoner’s works through Dec. 11, either in person or through the gallery’s online viewing room. 2707 Colquitt St., laurarathe.com
